One thing we have found with experience is that you should start thinking about some of the big decisions as soon as possible. Obviously as a start you tell friends and relatives you’re engaged. Then you need to decide on your wedding date, or at the very least think about spring/summer or better still which month. This gives you the overall framework in which to plan your wedding.
Next you should choose what type of ceremony you want, and the number of people you intend to invite. Start making a list of guests, you might be surprised at how many people there are, or that you have more space for friends than you imagined.
Visit potential venues and check availability and pricing, the sooner you can do this the better.
There are a quite a few things that need to come together before you can settle on a date. For example, don’t forget to check when your family or best friends are taking a vacation.
Once the wedding date has been set, you now need to plan your budget and decide who’s paying for what, organise your wedding insurance, maybe open a dedicated wedding bank account so that it’s easier to keep track of things.
You can also choose your best man, ushers and bridesmaids.
Take the chance to visit a Wedding Show where you might get some great or unusual ideas for your wedding, or take a look at the Brides Television channel.
As the days pass, tick off the things you have completed and put dates against any important items that must be done by a certain date. With proper planning, your wedding day really will turn into the best day of your lives.
